Bluey’s Big Play at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre

Vicky BeuttlerJuly 19, 2026

This week at the Waterside Theatre, The Hellers are in town for some family friendly fun in Bluey’s Big Play. The show is the theatrical adaptation of the Emmy® award-winning children’s television series, with an original story by Bluey creator Joe Brumm, and new music by Bluey composer, Joff Bush.

Join Bluey, Bingo, Bandit and Chilli ‘for real life’ as you’ve never seen them before as your favourite characters are bought to life by world- class puppeteers, with music, laughter, and fun for the whole family.

When Dad feels like a little bit of afternoon time out, Bluey and Bingo have other plans! Join them as they pull out all of the games and cleverness at their disposal to get Dad off that bean bag.

In case you have somehow not encountered the original Bluey TV series, the show is set in Australia and follows Bluey, a six-year-old  Blue Heeler puppy who is full of energy, imagination, and curiosity about the world. She lives with her father, Bandit, mother, Chilli, and four-year-old sister, Bingo, who regularly joins Bluey on adventures as the pair embark on imaginative play together. Overarching themes include family life, growing up and Australian culture and critics have praised the show for its modern and positive depiction of family life, constructive parenting messages, and the role of Bandit as a positive father figure. It success can at least partly be attributed to the show’s humour, sensitivity and discussion of real-world family issues as well as its loveable characters and playful nature which appeals to both children and their parents alike.

In this stage version, the young audience were treated to a new original story which also encompassed familiar storylines are characters including a game of musical statues, Bluey’s Magic Xylophone, the unstoppable Chattermax, a friendly visit from leaf bug and the boisterous grannies, Janet and Rita. There were moments where the audience were encouraged to sing, yell and dance along with the familiar elements and characters.

At the end of the performance, the audience were invited to participate in a huge game of “Keepy Uppy”, where bubbles and many oversized air-filled balls were released into the audience for some interactive fun. The whole show was sweet but also excellently executed I would recommend it as a gentle and fun first theatre visit for any young bluey fan.

Bluey’s Big Play will continue at The Waterside Theatre until Sunday 19th July before continuing to tour the UK as follows:
