EDINBURGH FRINGE: Rise of the Solar Punks at Paradise in Augustines (The Snug) (1 hour)*****

That’s the message award-winning producer turned performer Mark Ashmore is bringing to this year’s Fringe. It’s a serious message, but before you stop reading, Ashmore’s not talking climate change. He’s talking about how we can adapt to it – because it’s already here.
For the past year he has been travelling the world (with minimal air travel!) looking at how the rise in temperature has affected communities and how they are dealing with it.
It’s an engaging hour, delivered by a man whose Irish ancestry comes out in his storytelling. He speaks from the heart, and from experience – his own house in Yorkshire was flooded in 2015 and while in Australia, taking an award-winning show to the Adelaide Fringe, he discovered why eggs were no longer available in Cairns, and why you have to wear a stinger suit if you want to swim in the remaining 10 per cent of the Great Barrier Reef.
Yes, there are facts and figures, but they are fascinating, as are the videos and images.
All of which left me educated, entertained…and hopeful.
Rise of the Solar Punks is on at 12.45pm each day until August 9 at Paradise in Augustines (The Snug). www.paradise-green.co.uk
