EDINBURGH FRINGE: Single Use at the Pleasance Courtyard (Bunker Three)*****

Ella’s life is a mess. She doesn’t take responsibility for anything. But deep down she wants to do the right thing, and when a plastic bottle from her schooldays turns up in Malaysia, doing the right thing includes recycling single use plastic.
But in a world built for convenience that doesn’t come easy, and with only nine per cent of plastic being recycled globally, is it worth the bother?
Verity Mullan’s sharp observation of one of the biggest scourges on society unpicks the uncomfortable relationship between personal responsibility and environmental collapse.
With nothing more than a dustbin and a load of plastic bags and takeaway boxes, she takes us on Ella’s journey with comedy, chaos and a lasting message that we shouldn’t just recycle plastic but use less of it. Supermarkets and big companies take note!
This is writer-performer Mullan’s first full-length show and her Fringe debut and she’s starting off by making a difference.
Single Use is at 12.50pm until Aug 25 at the Pleasance Courtyard (Bunker Three) (1 hour). www.pleasance.co.uk
