EDINBURGH FRINGE: The Climate Fables

Productions highlighting the horrors of Climate Change are thin on the ground this year, which is a shame, because the problem, as we all know, is becoming more acute, and anything that will remind us to do our bit for the planet can only do good.
The first of New York-based The Torch Ensemble’s hard-hitting double-bill is terrifying.
In a world where Man has caused mass extinction, a mother hates her own species for the damage it has caused and will do anything to nurture her fledgling forest which provides oxygen and clean air. So when her daughter becomes pregnant does she get the choice to bring a baby into a world that cannot care for it? The moving performances and the messages they convey makes this one of the memorable productions of this year’s Fringe..
As a footnote, I can’t say that I was altogether happy to be greeted by someone from Extinction Rebellion as I queued to see this show.
We have to make a stand against those that continue to pollute the planet but this organisation’s protests have, in the past, hindered rather than helped the cause.
However, I was assured that they are now changing their tactics for the better, and free Heading for Extinction talks are being held at 14.30 on Aug 15 and 22 at Venue 276, Liquid Rooms/Warehouse EH1 2HE.
The Climate Fables is in two parts at 2pm on alternating days at Greenside at Nicolson Square until Aug 19 (55 mins). Tickets: www.greensidevenue.co.uk
