Disciples at the Traverse Theatre Edinburgh

We are, each and every one of us, unique. We are all different, and not one of us is perfect.

But, in this sometimes cruel world, some people find their differences more challenging, and not always of their own making.

So Disciples is brave, as it is beautiful. It's a breath of fresh air as five performers, each with their own challenges, declare, through words, music, dance and sign language, that they are comfortable in their own bodies.

A community choir began the 70-minute show singing 'We matter…' before poems, prose and songs touched on being 'not wanted', of 'a chasm between two worlds'. But this was only a pathway to how the show ends, with excited yells and laughter, of imaginings of being superheroes, of enjoying the freedom of letting go, of trusting, and being happy in their own skins.

Presented by Stellar Quines in association with the Traverse Theatre, written by Edinburgh poet, performer and theatre maker Ellen Renton and directed by movement director Rachel Drazek, this was a moving and uplifting piece of theatre the entire team can be proud of.
