Oh, Mary! Brings a Star - Studded Summer to the West End as Cole Escola Returns for Special Filmed Performances

Douglas McFarlaneJuly 15, 2026

The West End’s most gloriously unhinged comedy is about to get even bigger.

Following its Olivier Award-winning success in London and Tony Award triumphs on Broadway, Oh, Mary! has unveiled an impressive summer cast for its extended West End run at the Trafalgar Theatre, including the return of creator and Tony Award winner Cole Escola and a West End debut from drag superstar Jinkx Monsoon.

Adding even more excitement, producers have confirmed that the performances on Tuesday 28 July 2026 will be professionally filmed, preserving the acclaimed production for future audiences.

Cole Escola Returns to the Role That Made Theatre History

For just two weeks, from 20 July to 1 August, audiences will have the rare opportunity to see playwright Cole Escola reprise their Tony Award-winning performance as the wildly fictionalised Mary Todd Lincoln.

Escola’s outrageous comedy has become one of the biggest theatrical success stories of the decade. Since premiering Off-Broadway in 2024, the production has broken box office records on Broadway, earned two Tony Awards, won the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play in London, and was even named a Pulitzer Prize finalist.

The specially filmed performances on 28 July will also reunite much of the original Broadway company, with:

  • Giles Terera returning as Mary’s Husband
  • Two-time Emmy nominee Michael Urie as Mary’s Teacher
  • Original cast members Bianca Leigh and Tony Macht

Tickets for the filmed performances are priced at £45, making them one of the hottest theatre tickets of the summer.

A Royal Welcome for Jinkx Monsoon

From 17 August, the role of the chaotic First Lady passes to Jinkx Monsoon, making her highly anticipated West End debut.

Already beloved by theatre audiences for her acclaimed Broadway performances and by millions of fans as the only two-time winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Monsoon steps into a role she previously sold out on Broadway to overwhelming critical acclaim.

Fresh from scene-stealing appearances in Doctor Who and a string of Broadway successes including Chicago, Little Shop of Horrors and Pirates! The Penzance Musical, Monsoon brings formidable comic credentials to London’s most outrageous play.

Joining her will be:

  • Scott Karim as Mary’s Husband
  • Dino Fetscher as Mary’s Teacher
  • Kate O’Donnell as Mary’s Chaperone
  • Oliver Stockley as Mary’s Husband’s Assistant

A Changing of the Guard

Current West End star Mason Alexander Park, whose performance has helped establish the show as one of London’s theatrical sensations, takes their final bow on 18 July.

Meanwhile, Kate O’Donnell, Oliver Stockley, Dino Fetscher and Scott Karim continue through late September before a new cast is announced for the autumn season.

History Gets the Absurdist Treatment

Forget everything you thought you knew about America’s most famous First Lady.

Oh, Mary! imagines a deeply unhappy, heavily drinking, cabaret-obsessed Mary Todd Lincoln desperately trying to escape the confines of political life in the weeks before Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.

Running just 80 minutes without an interval, the play gleefully throws historical accuracy out of the window in favour of anarchic comedy, surreal characters and relentless laughs.

The result has been described by The New York Times as “one of the best comedies in years,” winning over audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Creative Dream Team

Behind the production is an award-winning creative team led by writer Cole Escola and director Sam Pinkleton, both Tony Award winners for the Broadway production.

The creative team also includes scenic designer dots, costume designer Holly Pierson, lighting designer Cha See, composer and sound designer Daniel Kluger, sound designer Drew Levy, wig designer Leah J. Loukas, arrangements by David Dabbon, with casting by Stuart Burt CDG.

UK Theatre Network Verdict

Few productions arrive in London with this level of acclaim, and even fewer continue gathering momentum months after opening. With Cole Escola returning for an exclusive engagement, a professionally filmed performance, and Jinkx Monsoon preparing for her West End debut, Oh, Mary! has become one of the capital’s essential theatrical events of 2026.

For theatre fans, comedy lovers and anyone who enjoys seeing history turned completely upside down, Trafalgar Theatre is the place to be this summer.

Oh, Mary! runs at the Trafalgar Theatre, London, with booking currently extended until 2 January 2027. The specially filmed performances take place on 28 July 2026.
