Go Your Own Way

To entice an audience into your show, they need to know immediately what the show is about and getting the title right is essential. ‘Go Your Own Way’ is a very well-known song title by Fleetwood Mac, taken from their iconic album ‘Rumours’. The album was released in 1977 and became the number one selling album around the world and won the Grammy Award for Best Album in 1978.

Fleetwood Mac was formed in 1967 by Peter Green, who combined the names of Mick Fleetwood and John McVie to create the band, which was originally a blues band.  The line-up has changed multiple times throughout the years, but Fleetwood and McVie have always been the constants in the band.

With their hauntingly beautiful instrumental ‘Albatross’ reaching number one in 1968, followed by hits ‘Man of the World’, ‘Oh Well’ and the oddly titled ‘The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prone Crown), all was going well for the band.  However, in 1970 Peter Green left the band and John McVie’s wife, Christine joined on keyboards and vocals, having worked as a session singer.

A few years later when more band members had left, Fleetwood was looking around for replacements.  He saw folk duo, Buckingham and Nicks and asked guitarist and vocalist Lindsey Buckingham to join the band. Buckingham only agreed to join if his partner, vocalist Stevie Nicks could also join.  This created a pop rock sound that propelled their 1975 album, Fleetwood Mac, to number one in the US Billboard Charts.

The band’s success took its toll on relationships amongst the band members with John and Christine divorcing and Lindsey and Stevie breaking up.  This emotional turmoil inspired the lyrics to many of the songs on the Rumours album, as they channelled their feelings into the music.  This created an album that touched many people and has made it the seventh most popular album of all time.

The line-up for this tribute show is Sheena Beckett as Stevie Nicks, Amy Owen as Christine McVie, Damon Downs as Lindsey Buckingham, Allan Beckett as John McVie and Greg Ison as Mick Fleetwood.  Since forming in 2021, Go Your Own Way has become a West End sell-out and has toured around the world.

Launching the show with The Chain, the familiar sound of BBCTV’s Top Gear, the band moves through hit after hit, Believe, Sarah, Dreams, Rhianna, Songbird to name but a few.

The Peter Green set and vocals on ‘Need Your Love’ were particularly good in the second half, but it was distracting jumping from different eras and not having a through-story to follow.

Fleetwood Mac’s music will continue to reach new generations and this show enables people to hear some of their tracks performed live.  For further details visit www.gyowtour.com
