EDINBURGH FRINGE: Alone at Assembly George Square (The Box)*****

So I am wondering just how this production manages to bring in its set and dismantle it in 10 minutes!
The miniscule stage is chockablock with the equipment you’d find on a spacecraft, and when that spacecraft begins to fail the two astronauts stick duct tape all over the floor to signify stemming leaks.
With ear-splitting jet engines, bangs, smoke and flashing lights this feels like an immersive event seeing as we’re all sitting in a container! We feel we’re really in the space ship.
The two actresses are superb: Holland is the sassy one, always making jokes and telling it how it is, while Dr Taylor is more reserved and will do anything to save the bacteria she is developing which she believes will save the Earth below, an Earth which is burning up. But when it comes to the meaning of life the two have different ideas, and when the space ship begins to fail the tension is palpable and the scenes dramatic. This is a full-on theatrical experience which has already won awards!
