For producer and champion of new writing Ellie Keel’s debut play stars not only Dawn Steele, star of the long-running TV series Monarch of the Glen, Wild at Heart and Holby City, but also James Robinson, whose first acting role was as the young William Wallace in Mel Gibson’s film Braveheart.

They don’t disappoint!

Skye – A Thriller is set on…Skye, where Annie and her siblings think they see their father, who had died four years before.

Thirty years later Annie is filming her account of that time to correct any wrong impressions, and in doing so Steele brings to life Annie’s young self and her siblings, while Robinson starts off as the English filmmaker and then becomes Annie’s brother Brawn, with cameo performances including their mother thrown in.

With impressive sound effects of crashing waves, souped up cars and storms, Steele and Robinson plow through a lifetime of memories, longings and regrets. It’s fast-paced with Steele jumping from a 17-year-old Annie, to her annoying twin, to her eight-year-old brother, all in the twinkling of an eye, while Robinson starts off as a cool Londoner then morphs into Annie’s sometimes volatile younger brother.

The play is called a thriller and to say more would spoil the surprises the story has in store.

But one thing’s for sure, there are thrills to be had watching these two actors and the energy they bring to the stage.

Skye – A Thriller is on at 3pm until Aug 25 at Summerhall TechCube 0 (1 hour) www.summerhall.co.uk
