Ghost Stories at the Festival Theatre Edinburgh

Edinburgh is supposed to be the most haunted city in the UK. So what better place to stage Ghost Stories, Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman's spine-tingling show which has been doing the rounds for the last 15 years. And in a theatre which is said to be haunted, to boot!

Fans of the supernatural will not be disappointed as they sit, perhaps a little nervously, to get their quota of horror, and this show gives it out in spades. I did hear that, on this tour, one person has fainted and several have left during the show, but as a hardened fan of all things that go bump in the night I found it highly entertaining and am in total awe of the special effects created by Scott Penrose, past President of the Magic Circle, and worthy designers Jon Bausor (set and costume), James Farncombe (lighting) and Nick Manning (sound). Under the direction of an impressive Sean Holmes, currently Associate Artistic Director of Shakespeare's Globe, all contribute to create an evening you won't forget in a hurry.

Of course, to give details of the production itself would spoil the element of surprise, but there wouldn't be a show without a cast, and seasoned actor Clive Mantle (Game of Thrones, Holby City, Vicar of Dibley…) heads a convincing team of very different characters who definitely bring their ghost stories alive!
