Qudus Onikeku/QDance Company’s ReINCARNATION at the Festival Theatre Edinburgh

From London's South Bank to its closing performances in Edinburgh, this ground-breaking dance company has been showcasing a taste of Nigeria's culture around the UK, with dance, music, fashion and visual art bringing sunshine to even the wettest of autumn evenings in a rich, vibrant production.
Combining ancient Yoruba philosophy with Nigerian youth culture and the chaos of urban Lagos, brightly coloured dancers take us on the journey of life, from a screaming mother in labour to writhing ghouls, white powdered or shiny black glistening in the dark.
I didn't always understand the logistics but I couldn't take my eyes off the explosion of energy before me, fuelled by a mix of music from techno to jazz to traditional African beats, provided largely by a guitarist and drummer who added much to the entertainment.
Produced by Dance Consortium, this company really strives to get its culture across – in Edinburgh alone it held a post show Q&A session, an Afro and hip hop dance workshop and an Afrobeats Afterparty.
The Qudus Onikeku/QDance Company has certainly left its mark!
