The Pantomime Adventures of Peter Pan at the Festival Theatre Edinburgh

This is Peter Pan as you've never seen it before!
The boy who never grew up (played by local lad Kieran Lynch) makes little more than a flying (literally, of course) visit to Neverland where the stars are Allan Stewart, Grant Stott and Jordan Young. And rightly so.
After 25 years Stewart, as May McSmee, and Stott as Captain Hook, are as magnificent as ever; their delivery, stage presence, and rapport, are second to none, and seeing them is a definite highlight of my theatrical year.
More recently River City's Jordan Young has joined the gang, this year as Smee, and he proves he is more than up for the task of taking on the two panto legends. He can soon be seen in the second series of TV's Vigil, currently being made in Edinburgh, but on stage he is the ultimate entertainer, joining in the routines of the jaw-dropping Britain's Got Talent finalists, street dancers Flawless, and delivering complicated dialogue at breakneck speed.
The story's not the thing here. It's a vehicle for what Stewart, Stott and Young do best – entertain. But in case you're curious, there are no Lost Boys, no John and Michael Darling, no Tiger Lily, just Jock the Big Green Croc, and former Lost Boy Captain Hook searching for the pixie dust which will stop Peter Pan from flying.
Nevertheless, this is magical at its best. As always, no expense is spared to give Edinburgh audiences the thrill of the year – this production is big on sound, lighting, sets, costumes and special effects, all of which wouldn't be complete without the hilarious script penned by Stewart and Harry Michaels, with additional material by Stott and Matt Slack. It's a real feast for the eyes, and ears. I'm so looking forward to seeing it again next month when I'll be introducing my Danish family to panto!
