EDINBURGH FRINGE: Blood and Gold at the Lyceum Studio

Storytelling is part of our DNA. If we were lucky enough, our parents read us stories at bedtime when we were children. Now sleep apps offer us that same escapism.
But professional storytelling is an art, and Mara Menzies wins awards with her rich, colourful tales, drawing from her Kenyan culture to entertain and to explore.
Before a mother dies, she leaves her young daughter a box filled with stories. Menzies opens that box and unleashes humour and tragedy, the importance of culture and of belonging, involving the audience to weave her magic. Her delivery is warm, funny and especially entertaining when she portrays the menacing Shadow Man. Like one of her characters she is a giver of joy!
EDINBURGH FRINGE: Blood and Gold is at the Lyceum Studio, venue 593 until Aug 28
