EDINBURGH FRINGE: Like Animals at Summerhall (Old Lab) (venue 26) EH9 1PL****
When something is inspired by true stories of scientists you’d expect it to be pretty dry; even heavy going perhaps. But Like Animals is anything but.

Using performers Kim Donohoe and Pete Lannon’s real-life relationship as a foundation, award-winning Ellie Dubois directs a funny and poignant investigation into love and communication in both humans and animals.

Kim and Pete are ideal for this show. Their love and communication for each other is evident. They are as one, they talk in unison and bounce off each other as they explore true, human-animal relationships, one with a parrot who learns to talk and the other with a dolphin who doesn’t!

There are moments of great tenderness and vulnerability but mostly it is greatly entertaining and very quirky.

Like Animals is at Summerhall until Aug 25 at 2.15pm. Tickets from £5.
